KEGS Foundation, KEGS and Don Salt Scholarship Recipients
with Foundation Directors at 2011 KEGS Breakfast
Ten of the KEGS Foundation scholarship students (plus the recipients of the two KEGS scholarships and the two Don Salt scholarships) attended the KEGS Breakfast (generously supported by SGL) and enjoyed the fast-paced talk on web-based geosciences by the Director of the Minn. Geological Survey, Dr. Harvey Thorleifson.
Additionally, ten of the KEGS Foundation scholarship students were able to attend the diverse and stimulating 2011 KEGS Geophysical Symposium on ‘Geophysical Challenges’ held on March 5, thanks to subsidies and support by the Foundation, and a sizable number also attended some portion of the PDAC mega-convention taking advantage of its great educational and networking opportunities.

Recent Events: January 2011 Update on Scholarships Awarded
Scholarship cheques to all 21 recipients (13 undergraduates and 8 grad students at 12 universities) for the current academic year (2010/2011) were presented at various ceremonies and events over the course of the fall semester. Dr. Larry Morley, pioneering GSC geophysicist and former DG of the GSC, featured speaker at the September KEGS Ottawa meeting, attended by many current and retired geophysicists.

Recent Events, 2010
The Foundation held its Annual General Meeting immediately after the KEGS Breakfast, at which an overview of the Foundation's finances, recent activities and reasonably favourable outlook were presented, and major donations were acknowledged, notably by BCGS, KEGS, Fugro, Barrick and Chris Nind, which have collectively increased the Foundation's endowment to over $125,000.
Following the sudden and much lamented departure in early January of Dr. Jim Wright (Prof. Emeritus at Memorial and a long-serving Counselor to the Foundation)initial efforts are underway to establish a scholarship to honour his contributions as a distinguished geophysicist and educator.
The KEGS Foundation is also pleased to announce that it will henceforth be administering and annually awarding the WAMIC Geophysics Scholarship, which was originally established by the Women's Association of Mining In Canada, who after many years of supporting geoscience and mining education in Canada are winding up their WAMIC Foundation. WAMIC representatives Marjorie Sheridan and Patty Mannard enjoyed participating in the KEGS Breakfast and Foundation AGM.
